Harley-Davidson got it’s extremely humble launch when William Harley and Arthur Davidson created the first production motorcycle in 1903. The motobike that was built was a racing bike. It was produced in a small shed wooden labeled Harley-Davidson Motor Company on the front door. One year later Harley-Davidson had put out 3 production motorcycles for the public. Harley-Davidson was victorious with the first race in 1905 and hired thier first employee. 3 years later, they sold the first motorcycle to the Detroit Police Department and was utilized as a police service. They became prosperous that they were able to develop a 6 story factory building and started to export their motorcycles to the Japan.
1914 marks the year H-D technically goes in itself into the national racing circuit, and is fairly quickly known as “The Wrecking Crew” for it’s dominance in the racing industry. In 1917, part of the motorcyles they built were sold the military and was used as military and civilian bikes.
Half of H-D motorcycles were shipped to Germany and were put to use for military service. The first Soldiesr that rode the motorcycle was Corporal roy holtz. 1920 marks the year that the motorcycle company is the most significant in the world in the motorcycle industry, and has over 2,000 dealers in 67 countries worldwide.
1931 is the year that almost all of Harley’s competitors are gone, with the exception of the Indian Motorcycle Company. The Indian and Harley-Davidson motorcycle company were the only two remaining motorcycle companies.
Because the world goes in into World War 2, so does Harley turn back into Military motorcycle construction, and the service school is turned back into the military motorcycle service school, often called the Quartermaster School for military mechanics. During this time period the public would not get a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle.
